You know what’s interesting here? I think this might be the first time (or the first time in a long time) that Andrew’s been told to his face that he’s not some heartless monster.

It’s very clear from the very beginning that Andrew couldn’t give two shits about what other people might think of him. But for the first time, here’s someone who blatantly looks at him like he’s a human and not a sociopath, and what’s more, that person is also threatening to fight anyone who might say anything against him.

Andrew’s world has not worked like that up to this point. In his world so far, everything’s been an exchange. If he does this, he’ll get something in return. Nothing more and nothing less. A promise is a promise and the cold, hard, law.

And now he’s got Neil Josten over here: someone who’s sacrificed himself to Riko over winter break once already for Andrew, and is now casually speaking about doing it again. Can you imagine how unsettling that might be?

No wonder Andrew says the “going on ninety-three”. He’s unnerved. Things don’t work like that for him. These kinds of actions are not given freely. Neil Josten is over here trying to turn Andrew’s world on it’s side.

(I could also go on about how Neil Josten is a person that has spent a good 18 years of his life not thinking about anyone’s survival but his own and is now over here casually offering to fight those who might besmirch Andrew’s honor but we’ll save that for another post)

Okay so if there’s not at least ten instances where one of Aaron’s patients mistake him for Andrew then I am not alive.

Like Katelyn actually made them shirts that say in big letters Doctor Aaron Minyard for Aaron and ←Doctor Aaron Minyard for Katelyn when they go to parties.

But then there’s this one time when Andrew actually stops by

There’s this one kid waiting to see his favorite doctor who helped him with his broken arm and gave him the cool cast and he sees Andrew and immediately screams “Doctor Minyard !!!!” and bolts toward him

And he starts babbling to Andrew about how cool his cast is and explains all of the signatures and doodles on it nonstop

Andrew’s actually crouched down and is nodding along but not responding to anything this kid is saying but he’s actually really good with kids??

Meanwhile this kid’s brother is having a fucking heart attack in the background because holy fuck that’s Andrew Minyard

And when Aaron finally reveals himself the kid gasps and they expect him to recognize Andrew but instead he’s like “Doctor Minyard you cloned yourself !!!” and he runs up to Aaron and puts a hand on Aaron’s like “I told them you could do anything.”

Katelyn’s hiding behind the corner and she’s nearly on the floor with how hard she’s laughing

Aaron really brokenly explains who Andrew is and kid’s like “Oh?? Yeah my brother talks about him all the time !!”

Kid’s brother wants to die.

Neil finally pops up behind Andrew to get him to sign some papers because the only reason they’re there is because Neil sprained his wrist and Andrew is calling in a favor and has to sign his fucking paperwork for him

Except Neil is laughing like “Are you jealous your brother stole one of your fans” and Andrew smacks him with the clipboard

Aaron is secretly doting on this kid who chose him over Andrew and makes Andrew sign an autograph for the kid’s brother.

Give me more Doctor Minyard.

(On the plus side Aaron never has to dress up for Halloween parties because he can just say he’s dressed like Andrew Minyard what are you talking about)

My poor Andriel heart actually hurts every time I read about how Andrew lets Neil full-body lean on him when Neil needs someone to hold him up, even though Andrew hates being touched in any way shape or form

Ok ok this made me think

When Andrew got out of Easthaven like was literally just OUT OF THERE, and hadn’t seen Neil in weeks / months and and was very “No one fucking touch me” and had seen Neil broke his promise in order to keep it, and can see what Neil really looks like, HE LETS NEIL LEAN AGAINST HIM AND AND SEMI-PIN HIM TO THE CAR DOOR WITHOUT FLINCHING OR BATTING AN EYE

The best part about the car door thing is Andrew had the opportunity to get out of Neil’s way. He chose not to.
I feel like in some way he was trying to prove the reality of Neil’s existence in that moment. Like, some part of him had been thinking while away in Easthaven that Neil wasn’t real, that nobody could see Andrew the way Neil did, nobody would ever have bothered to hunt down where he was when Drake was assaulting him because nobody ever had.
Now, here Neil is but he looks totally different, he’s got red hair and bruises and bandages all over, and Andrew’s standing there going, I knew he wasn’t real. But he wants him to be real so badly, and so even though he could easily step out of the way when he sees Neil leaning into the car, he lets Neil lean past him, trap him basically, and Neil doesn’t hurt him and is so careful of him. And Andrew’s standing there going fuckfuckfuck what if he is real, what do I do now, he was supposed to be a hallucination but I’m sober and he’s here and I can feel him.

The way Andrew’s lip curls in disgust makes it seem like he’s looking at a pile of shit instead of a small dog.

“A dog, Andrew.”, Aaron replies, drawling out the word with a level of annoyed apathy that’s so on brand for a Minyard twin.

“Your dog.”

“Katelyn’s dog.”, Aaron specifies.

“You helped me pick him out, don’t lie.” Katelyn takes a sip of her coffee and a forkful of birthday cake. “We got him from a shelter.”, she tells Neil, who’s gently petting the dog at the moment.

It has white, soft fur and black eyes and Neil is pretty sure it’s smaller than King. It’s also wearing a red collar.

“I found Sir in a dumpster.”, he replies, scratching the dogs ear.

“Ah, so you’re mocking me for having this dog, but you live with a dumpster cat.” Aaron leans back in his chair, glaring at his brother who’s picking all the cherries out of his slice of cake.

“Don’t call Neil that.” Andrew entirely ignores Katelyn’s laughter.

“What’s his name?”, Neil asks. The dog puts a tiny paw on his thigh.

Aaron looks pained as Katelyn replies “Fredrick!”.

“That’s a nice name.”, Neil says. Fredrick is in his lap now and is tentatively sniffing in Andrew’s direction.

“Right? Aaron calls him Freddy.”

The dog places one paw into the space between Neil’s right thigh and Andrew’s left. Andrew stares at it like it’s trying to telepathically communicate that he will kill it if it dares to come any closer.

“Andrew, maybe we should get a dog.”, Neil says, just to rile him up further.

“Only if that means we’ll kick out one of your stinking cats.”

“Maybe I’ll kick you out and get a labrador instead.”

“Kinky.”

Aaron gives a retching noise.
